The translation workshop on the short story by South Korean writer Gong Seon-ok.
Supported by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea

From September 30, 2020 to December 21, 2020 the Herzen Center for Korean Studies organizes a Korean literature translation workshop under the title «Secrets and Art of Translation of Korean Literature from Acknowledged Masters». The workshop is dealing with a short story by a South Korean writer Gong Seon-ok. The workshop is supported by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea (LTIK).

This event is significant and prestigious for the Herzen Center for Korean Studies and for the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen, which got the support of the LTIK on the competitive basis.

Within the framework of the workshop students of the Russian State Pedagogical University will acquire skills and techniques of professional literature translation and attend special lectures delivered by acknowledged professional translators of Korean literature – Associate Professor Li San Youn, Associate Professor Kim Hwan, as well as Professor S.O. Kurbanov and Head of the Department of Oriental Languages​and Linguodidactics Associate Professor A.A. Den.

In addition, an online meeting with the Korean writer Gong Seon-ok will become a significant event in the final stage of the workshop. The writer will personally announce the winners of the translation competition, who will be awarded commemorative prizes (1st, 2nd and 3rd ranks). The 1st place winner will have an opportunity to publish his/her translation in one of the leading publishing houses of Russia as recommended by the Literature Translation Institute of Korea.

Requirements for participation in the workshop: 

Enrolment at a bachelor’s or master’s degree course with the Korean language as the major at the Russian State Pedagogical University named after A.I. Herzen.
Students who declare their desire to participate at the workshop will be given the full version of the text of the short story by Gong Seon-ok.
